Candiss Smith
Candiss brings over 17 years of experience in education. She completed the teacher training program at Dallas Baptist University and earned her bachelor's degree from there in 2002. She began her career in Arlington ISD, where she taught 5th and 6th grade across all core content areas and served as a team leader. Drawn to the UME model and its emphasis on parent partnership, she firmly believes that the home is the foundation for learning and long-term success. For the past 10 years, Candiss has served in a variety of roles at UME. She has taught junior high science and high school astronomy, and for the last two years, she has worked as the Secondary Curriculum and Instruction Coordinator. In this role, she has led staff development initiatives, trained new teachers, and supported instructional improvement across the campus. Additionally, she served as the school’s cheer coach for three years. Beyond her professional role, Candiss is also a UME parent, giving her a unique and personal perspective on the school’s mission. She is passionate about fostering strong instruction, academic excellence, and a positive campus culture. Her vision is to equip scholars for future success by building a solid academic foundation while nurturing character and a strong work ethic.
